Lords of the Fallen Review Easier!
Lords of the Fallen is building its popularity slowly, but surely. After its release, it was also known as one of the games that was reinforced with Denuvo's phenomenal anti-piracy system, making it impossible to pirate to this day. But unfortunately, the impression he offered us was not as good as imagined. Those of you who have read our previous preview of course already have a little idea of what is the source of our main complaint. That's right, it was technical problems that made the PC version of Lords of the Fallen that we tried difficult to enjoy. Playing it on a rig with specifications that are already above the existing recommended requirements, this game doesn't seem to be able to run without experiencing any crashes at all. Glitch that caused us to be thrown out of the world, lost saves twice, crashes, gameplay bugs, and other problems that made us have to repeat the loop in the same area for no apparent reason. Combined with the game's high level of difficulty, all technical problems become a burden in themselves.
A hero with a dark past, this sentence seems appropriate to conclude who Harkyn really is - the main character you use. In a world that is said to have no forgiveness for sins at all, Harkyn - a criminal is released from prison with a mission to save humanity who is waging a war that seems impossible to win. All the Runes in the form of tattoos engraved on his face became a kind of evidence for all the crimes he had previously committed. Looking for redemption, assisted by his closest mentor - Kaslo, Harkyn begins to struggle to repel the army of monsters and demons born from a dark world called Rhogar. The battle that brought him into this scary world. It's a cliché, but this is the story line that Lords of the Fallen offers. You will take Harkyn fighting from one place to another, while trying to subdue the demon troops he encounters, from lowly soldiers to giant generals who are ready to finish you off very quickly.
Similar To The Game Dark Souls
Those of you who have tasted Dark Souls in the past will easily master Lords of the Fallen because the essence offered is practically the same. As with most action RPG games today, you will be given the opportunity to choose the type of magic and equipment that will determine your fighting style throughout the game. The choice of weapons itself is actually not much different from the class system in other RPG games. You can still change weapon types in battle, but if you use the weapon according to your first choice, there will be its own unique buff. The weapon you choose will also determine what kind of initial attribute point distribution you get. Apart from weapons, you will also be asked to choose what type of magic will accompany your action. Don't worry, there are very clear descriptions to give you an idea of the variations in magic and their effects.
In terms of gameplay mechanics, those of you who have tried the Demon Souls or Dark Souls series will be faced with similar mechanics. Lords of the Fallen will use timing to attack and defend as the spearhead to win every existing battle. You can't hope to survive by just attacking blindly, especially when faced with enemies who have super large weapons and shields. You have to try to learn to find gaps in when is the best time to attack, run, defend, and produce damage as best as you can. The process is not easy of course, because you are required to learn and go through a series of trial and error processes. One wrong step and your life is at stake. Because on the other hand, every enemy attack that enters your body will produce quite threatening damage. Not only do you have to learn about enemy attack variants and exploit gaps, you are also required to learn about your own character. Why? Because along with the modifications you make to him, your character will also change and affect the movements he produces – especially regarding animation speed and weight. As a game that focuses on timing, these two elements are factors that must be considered and Lords of the Fallen executes this very well. Different weapons mean different animations. The heavier the weapon, the slower your weapon's movement will be, even with greater damage.
Using different weapons means anticipating different attacks to ensure that your weapon lands at the right moment. Weapons such as a giant hammer will take time to swing to land on the enemy's face, while a dual-wielding dagger for example can launch instantly. Not only weapons, the variety of equipment you wear on Harkyn's figure will also affect the total weight he has to carry. The heavier the equipment, the higher your ability to withstand the damage. But in exchange, you have to sacrifice speed and agility to move. Worth it or not? The decision is directed at you. The character progression offered is also quite different. You will still gain a ton of experience points via the enemies you successfully defeat or the side quests you successfully complete. You can distribute the experience points you get into two different elements – unlock and strengthen existing magic or fill attribute points to be distributed to strengthen your own character. With an attribute system like this, you have the freedom to create the kind of character you want. Rogue with super thick blood? Or a Warrior with high movement speed? Very likely. However, it should also be noted, this attribute will also determine whether you can wear certain equipment and of course – get certain attack buffs from it.
You earned previously and the amount will continue to decrease over time. If you die before you manage to retrieve these experience points, they will simply disappear and you will need to grind again. The good news? Grinding is also not a difficult thing in this game. Once you die, all enemies will reset and wait to be killed again for extra experience points. So if you are not too confident about being able to achieve certain progress because your character doesn't seem strong enough, you can farm exp quite easily. Moreover, Lords of the Fallen also has a reward system that will increase the number of experience points you get for each enemy you kill in a row before dying. The opportunity to strengthen yourself and make your next journey easier is always open.
Technical Problem
With solutions in cyberspace that do not lead to a definite solution at all, we ourselves have started to act like a pretentious fortune teller who is full of speculation. After the technical problems that we had previously overcome in the preview section, a bigger challenge emerged. Entering one of the portals and trying to get out, the Lords of the Fallen game will crash every time we do this action. There is no way to get out at all. Every time we wanted to use the portal, we were kicked out. Lowering the visualization quality to the lowest level doesn't help much. Tried all methods, disassembled and installed, until full of frustration, this game ran in a "borderless window". And voila! this game suddenly runs smoothly. We think we've found the best panacea. Then meet the boss after that, and crash again. We raise our hands.
It's a bit strange indeed, to find the fact that there are some gamers who can play this game without problems on PC, while others like us have to feel frustrated by it. Of course, this really hurts the existing gaming experience, because random crashes like this could mean you have to go through the same boss battle again if they happen. CI Games still hasn't provided any official comments or any new patches. Technical issues will be one of your biggest considerations before buying the PC version of Lords of the Fallen.
Conclusion
You will meet an action RPG game with a fairly high level of difficulty, but not as difficult as Dark Souls of course. Victory is largely determined by the timing of your attacks and actions, which of course must be unlocked by studying the variations in enemy attacks and the gaps that may appear. A world that is large enough to be explored with beautiful visualization, with several elements such as weight and magic playing a big role, Lords of the Fallen actually offers quite solid gameplay. But unfortunately, it turned out to be injured by a series of technical problems that we faced to the extent that it made it difficult to enjoy. Bugs, glitches, crashes that occur randomly are something that is very unfortunate, especially if they occur when you are involved in an important battle, such as fighting a boss for example. However, it's not just this technical problem, there are several other notes that deserve to be minus points.
One of them is the camera system that is used. There are many occasions when you move to make a fast parry to various angles, the camera comes in very close position. The result? You can't see clearly what's going on, what your enemy is doing, exactly. You can indeed lock the enemy as your target, but unfortunately, that doesn't necessarily fix this problem. Lords of the Fallen is actually a pretty solid action RPG game, especially if you are a gamer who loves Dark Souls. However, the various technical problems that it presents make it appear like a gambling table, where you never know what kind of problem you will get.
